Selection Process
The selection runs in five stages — CBT-1, CBT-2, CBAT, Document Verification and Medical Examination.
Stage 1 — First Stage CBT (CBT-1)
Duration: 60 minutes
75 multiple-choice questions for 75 marks (1 mark each)
Negative marking: 1/3 mark per wrong answer
Sections: Mathematics, Mental Ability, General Science (10th-standard level)
Minimum pass percentage: UR / EWS 40%, OBC-NCL 30%, SC 30%, ST 25%
Screening only — marks not counted in the final panel
Normalisation across shifts
Stage 2 — Second Stage CBT (CBT-2)
Total Duration: 2 hours 30 minutes, total 175 questions
Part-A: 90 minutes, 100 questions (merit-counted)
Part-B: 60 minutes, 75 questions (qualifying only at 35% for all categories)
Negative marking: 1/3 mark per wrong answer
Part-A minimum pass: UR / EWS 40%, OBC-NCL 30%, SC 30%, ST 25%
Shortlisting for CBT-2: 15 times the vacancies notified for that RRB
Part-B trade-wise syllabus is published by Directorate General of Training (dgt.gov.in)
Stage 3 — Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT)
Conducted in English and Hindi only; no negative marking
Shortlisting: 8 times the ALP vacancies for each community / category
Self-Screening Medical Declaration (Annexure VIII A & VIII B), signed by a General Physician and Eye Specialist from a Central or State Government Hospital or Medical College, must be produced on CBAT day
Qualifying: minimum T-score of 42 in each test battery, for all candidates
Stage 4 — Document Verification
The RRB-wise merit list is prepared from candidates qualifying in CBAT. Part-A of CBT-2 and CBAT scores get 50:50 weightage. Candidates equal to the number of vacancies are shortlisted for Document Verification and Medical Examination. Tie-breaker: older candidate ranks higher; if same date of birth, alphabetical order of given name (A to Z).
Stage 5 — Medical Examination
Conducted by the Railway Administration to the A-1 standard. A failed candidate gets one final Medical Appeal opportunity on payment of prescribed charges; the appeal result is binding.
Languages of Examination
CBT-1 and CBT-2 questions are available in English, Hindi and 13 regional languages: Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Konkani, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu. CBAT is conducted only in English and Hindi. The medium chosen at application stage cannot be changed.
How to Apply
Visit the official RRB website (rrbapply.gov.in or any of the 21 participating RRB sites listed in the Important Links section above).
Choose Create an Account for CEN 01/2026. Candidates who created an account for the 2024 or 2025 CENs should use the same login.
Enter personal particulars exactly as in the SSC / SSLC / Matriculation / 10th class certificate. The mobile number, email ID and chosen RRB cannot be changed later.
Authenticate identity with DigiLocker or Aadhaar (recommended) — alternate Photo ID verification triggers stricter scrutiny at every stage.
Complete the Self-Screening Medical Declaration questionnaire on vision, mental fitness, pre-existing conditions and LASIK history.
Capture a live photograph through webcam or front camera as instructed — no pre-existing photo upload is allowed. Dress in non-white clothing for contrast.
Upload signature scan in JPG / JPEG (30 to 49 KB, 100 DPI, 140 x 60 pixels minimum, black ink on white paper, running handwriting only).
SC / ST candidates wanting free railway travel pass should upload the SC / ST certificate in PDF (under 400 KB).
Enter Aadhaar number and link an Aadhaar-seeded bank account (own or family member) for fee refund.
Pay the examination fee through net banking, debit / credit card or UPI.
Save the registration number and application printout. SMS and email confirmation is received only after successful fee payment.
To correct anything later (except create-account fields and chosen RRB), use the modification window 17 to 26 June 2026 on payment of Rs. 250 per occasion.

Common Mistakes to Avoid
Submitting more than one application — to the same RRB or to different RRBs — leads to summary rejection of all applications and lifetime debarment from RRB and RRC exams.
Signing in BLOCK or CAPITAL letters, on a non-white background or with non-black ink. The signature must be in running handwriting on white paper with black ink, scanned at 100 DPI, 30 to 49 KB, 140 x 60 pixels minimum.
Uploading a pre-existing or printed photograph instead of the live webcam capture — this is detected and the application is summarily rejected.
Forgetting that mobile number, email ID and chosen RRB locked at the Create-an-Account stage cannot be changed at any later point, even by paying the modification fee.
Not linking an Aadhaar-seeded bank account before fee payment — refund of Rs. 400 (or Rs. 250) after attending CBT-1 is credited only to an Aadhaar-seeded account.
Applying with LASIK or any refractive corrective eye surgery history — ALP medical standard A-1 disqualifies such candidates regardless of corrected vision.
Final Words
CEN 01/2026 is the single biggest Assistant Loco Pilot recruitment cycle this year, and the 11,127-post panel will be drawn purely from CBT-1, CBT-2, CBAT and Medical Examination merit. Treat the 14 June 2026 closing date as hard, double-check trade and zone preferences before the create-an-account lock, and keep medical fitness for A-1 standard in mind from day one.
