The CBI Law Internship Scheme 2026 is open to applicants who meet all the conditions below:
Citizen of India.
Law student enrolled in a Graduation course at a reputed Law University or Institute.
For five-year integrated LLB: applicant should be undergoing or have completed the 8th semester of the integrated course.
For three-year LLB: applicant should be undergoing or have completed the 4th semester of the course.
Nature of Work
Selected interns will be attached with CBI officers and given practical exposure to investigation and prosecution functions. They will assist CBI law officers and investigating officers in researching court judgments on specific areas, preparing court applications and replies, presenting evidence and documents, examining witnesses in court, trial and pairvi work, data collection and other duties assigned by senior officers. Beyond the legal-procedure value, the exposure to CBI functioning is positioned by the Academy as career-building for graduating law students.
Conditions of Internship
The internship carries no payment of any stipend; interns must arrange their own stay and travel.
CBI will not provide medical facility or any other facility to the interns.
The internship does not confer any right to future employment in CBI.
Interns must sign an Oath of Secrecy at the time of joining, which is binding on their conduct during the internship and beyond.
Documents Required
Candidates must keep the following documents ready in the prescribed format before starting the online application:
Photograph of the candidate in .jpg format (up to 2 MB).
Scanned signature in .jpg format (up to 2 MB).
Proof of Date of Birth in .pdf format (up to 2 MB).
Marksheets from 10th class onwards in .pdf format (each up to 2 MB).

How to Apply
Visit the CBI vacancies page at https://cbi.gov.in/vacancies.
Locate the CBI Law Internship Scheme 2026 listing under Sr. No. 1 of the vacancy list.
Click Apply now against the internship advertisement.
Register on the portal using a valid email ID and mobile number.
Fill the online application form with personal, academic and contact details.
Upload the photograph, signature, DOB proof, all marksheets, current-enrolment letter and the recommendation letter from the Principal / HoD in the prescribed file formats.
Review the application and submit on or before 20 May 2026.
Important Instructions
Each upload must be within the 2 MB limit specified in the advertisement; oversized files will be rejected by the portal.
The recommendation letter from the Principal or HoD is mandatory and must explicitly endorse the candidate for a minimum three-month internship.
The Oath of Secrecy commitment is non-negotiable - applicants who cannot abide by it should not apply.
Interns will not receive any future-employment claim with CBI; the scheme is purely an exposure programme.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Skipping the recommendation letter - the advertisement requires a Principal / HoD-signed letter; applications without it will be incomplete.
Wrong semester at the time of applying - 8th semester for 5-year integrated LLB or 4th semester for 3-year LLB is the floor; applying earlier than that triggers rejection.
Treating it as a paid internship - the scheme carries zero stipend and zero travel allowance; planning the internship around expected payment is a mistake.
Uploading files above 2 MB - each document has a strict 2 MB ceiling per the advertisement; large scans must be compressed before upload.
Final Words
The CBI Law Internship Scheme 2026 offers a rare government-side legal exposure programme for senior LLB students, with 30 seats spread across six metro and major-city locations. Eligible applicants should bundle their documents within the 2 MB-per-file limit and submit the online application well before the 20 May 2026 cut-off through cbi.gov.in.
